This morning the training for #CustomsAIJM officials who are part of the #AIRCOP program of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) began at the "José Martí" International Airport.
The inauguration of the event was chaired by the Vice Chief of the institution, William Perez González and the Director of Risk Management and Control, Nelson Guitierrez Acosta, and coach Leovigildo Gala Esquina was welcomed to the country.
#AIRCOP is a project implemented by UNODD in partnership with #INTERPOL and the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Its objective is to create interagency task forces to strengthen the capabilities of international airports to detect and intercept drugs, other illicit goods, and high-risk passengers, including foreign terrorist fighters, in countries of origin, transit, and destination with the overall objective to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
In #Cuba we have a program unit at the "José Martí" International Airport which, during its first year of operation, has achieved significant results in confronting illegal customs officers.
The permanent preparation of our Customs and the strengthening of cooperation ties with international organizations and existing mechanisms is vital in the daily work that we carry out #PorUnaFronteraSegura.
