Tropical storm Elsa left us a lesson: Cuba demonstrated, with the work of all the organs and management structures at different levels, the participation of the people, and the performance of the press, both at the territorial and national levels, that we were able to focus on two complex problems at the same time, putting the welfare of our population first.

This is how the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, valued during the meeting this Tuesday of the Temporary Working Group for the prevention and control of COVID-19, where it was analyzed The epidemiological situation of all the provinces in detail, with Matanzas being the one with the most complex scenario.

The meteorological event, he acknowledged, increased the tensions that we had in the country, since it was necessary to prepare and face it in the midst of the worst moment of the epidemic and the epidemiological situation generated from the levels of transmission that are found today of the disease.

Despite this reality, the Cuban president stressed that the way in which the hydrometeorological phenomenon was dealt with demonstrated the country's organizational capacity and leadership capacity to confront events of this nature, with a coherent, precise, efficient and effective.

After acknowledging the benefits of the rains that occurred in the national territory, he assured that the effects continue to be quantified, caused mainly in the electricity generation system, almost completely restored; as well as in some houses, crops, roads and water supply or conduction systems.

Although on this occasion the effects were minimal, the president stressed that the work carried out was not in vain, as it also allowed training and preparation for the future occurrence of phenomena of greater intensity. You don't work for pleasure, "you work to minimize the effects on human lives and material resources," he emphasized.

In this sense, he warned about the importance of "continuing to work from prevention, from observation, because it has been declared that this hurricane season is going to be intense in the Caribbean area."
