
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, today greeted the celebration of the XIII International Convention on Environment and Development on Twitter.
He also highlighted in his message that the development of the conclave, for the first time in a virtual way, is an achievement of the Computerization programs of the Cuban Society.
The president pointed out: “In the midst of the storm and the epidemiological situation, the #CienciaCubana does not stop. The XIII International Convention on Environment and Development began, for the first time in a virtual way, an achievement of the Society's Computerization programs ”.
Also, the Head of State pointed out that it constitutes a success and a commitment to organize, under the conditions of the country, a Convention with seven Congresses, in which more than 700 papers from all over Cuba and 14 other countries will be presented.
Finally, he congratulated the organizers of the event, and said they assert Cuba's commitment to science, sustainability and the environment.

The XIII International Convention on Environment and Development is in virtual session from this Monday until next Friday, July 9, with the participation of 125 foreign delegates from 14 countries, and some 783 specialists from the Island.
According to the General Program of the event, the Congresses make up the Convention: XIII on Environmental Education, XII on Protected Areas, X on Environmental Management, VII on Climate Change, V on Policy, Justice and Environmental Law, First on Geospatial Sciences and Disaster Risk and VIII on Ecosystem and Biodiversity Management.
During the opening session, the political will of the Cuban State to protect the Environment was highlighted, an example of which is the State Plan to confront climate change, the one aimed at preventing and confronting the crimes and illegalities that affect to forest resources, wild flora and fauna and the Environmental Strategy.
