April 19 will always have great significance in the history of our nation. For the Cuban people and their nascent Revolution, it meant defending the sovereignty of the country, the sacred soil of the homeland, defending their interests, their ideals and their socialist process. It meant truncating the plans of the Pentagon, of the Central Intelligence Agency; in short, the government of the United States.

The victory of April 19 constituted the first great defeat of Yankee imperialism in Latin America, as expressed by the Commander in Chief on the same date but in 1986:

“The importance of Girón is not in the magnitude of the battle, of the combatants, of the heroic deeds that took place there; The great historical importance of Girón is not what happened, but what did not happen thanks to Girón!”

On the day of those events, each calendar, the Camagüey Customs remembers the victory of Girón; in the morning special in the morning hours of today those events were recalled, and although 61 years have passed since that epic, it will always be a source of pride and lucky as the years go by; they are living history and evidence of the national epic and a part of our history. "From loving the past glories, strength is drawn to acquire the new glories". Spin of these times. That victory is a trip to the past, unavoidable if we want to preserve the future and cultivate the utopia that brought us here and that continues hand in hand with the new generations.
