The Government of the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, sent a diplomatic note to the Joe Biden administration to request the exclusion of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism, which was cited on Tuesday by the White House as one of the reasons for those that decided to remove the island from that ranking.

The note, signed by the Colombian ambassador in Washington, Daniel García-Peña, describes Cuba as a country that has been a facilitator of peace in Colombia for years, according to El Tiempo, which has had access to it.

"Over the years, Cuba has played an important role in facilitating Colombia's peace efforts, acting as a host country and proving to be a reliable interlocutor," the letter reads.

The Colombian text emphasizes that the Caribbean country was chosen during the administration of former president Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2018), along with Norway, as guarantor of the peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN).
