Cuba remembers the 144th anniversary of the Baraguá Protest

March 15 is a date that raises the patriotic spirit of Cubans, said today on Twitter, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of Cuba on a day that commemorates the 144th anniversary of the Baraguá Protest. 

From his official account on that social network, Marrero Cruz stressed that this date highlights the patriotism of the Cuban people when we remember the act of revolutionary intransigence carried out by Antonio Maceo in the Mangos de Baraguá, in the face of the peace without independence that the Zanjón Pact proposed. .

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization, evoked the anniversary on that social network and considered that he bequeathed to future generations the spirit of rebellion and the intransigence of never giving up.

For its part, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) also evoked the date and stressed that this glorious act traces the path of the present and the future.

Likewise, the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Cubaminrex, highlighted the 144th anniversary of the historic Baraguá protest.

He said that it is the honorable duty of present and future generations to be faithful to the immortal example of the Bronze Titan and his heroic protest, and defenders of the Fidelista postulate that Cuba will be an eternal Baraguá.

Led by Major General Antonio Maceo, other senior chiefs, officers and Eastern troops under his command, on March 15, 1878, in Mangos de Baraguá, the historic protest took place.

This act was the perfect expression of the revolutionary spirit of Cubans, and showed that the leaders, officers and soldiers who had carried the weight and hardships of that war on their shoulders were not willing to resign.
