
#CustomsInforma | The extension of the tariff exemption to food, toiletries and medicines is in force and new benefits have been approved by the Ministry of Finance and Prices for imports that are carried out on a non-commercial basis by natural persons.
The Ministry of Finance and Prices has decided to extend until March 31, 2024 the tariff exemption for the importation into the country of food, hygiene, medicines and medical supplies by travelers as accompanied luggage.
Likewise, it approved to extend on an exceptional basis from January 1 and until March 31, 2024 the regulations listed below:
The exemption from payment of customs tax is authorized for imported products classified as food, hygiene, medicines and medical supplies that are imported by passengers as unaccompanied luggage up to a limit of 500 US dollars (USD) of the value or equivalent weight up to (50) kilograms in the value/weight relationship established by the General Customs of the Republic.
In air, sea and non-commercial postal shipments by natural persons, the value limit is increased from 200 USD to 500 USD.
The exemption from customs tax is ratified for the first 30 USD of the value or its equivalent weight of (3) kilograms of the shipment and to apply a tariff rate of 30% to the excess.
The exemption from payment of customs tax on food, hygiene, medicines and medical supplies that are imported non-commercially by natural persons as air, sea and postal shipments is extended up to a limit of 200 USD or equivalent weight up to (20) kilograms in the weight/value relationship established by the General Customs of the Republic.
The condition is maintained that items classified as food, hygiene, medicines and medical supplies that are imported as part of the passenger's luggage as well as shipments will be presented to Customs in separate packages from the rest of the products.
The Official Gazette No. 92 Extraordinary, published on December 29, 2023, includes the new regulations of the Ministry of Finance and Prices (Resolutions 280 and 281), of Public Health (Resolution 445) as well as the General Customs of the Republic (Resolution 373)
