This Friday afternoon it was falling on a burning corner: on Lexington and 38th, just meters from the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, a crowd that loves Cuba and its Revolution gave many Yes to the Caribbean Island, and also many No to the blockade that has denied the brave country even the colors of life.
“Cuba yes, blockade no!” cried women and men gathered there, raising striking signs to support a nation so far from that northern corner, and yet so loved and respected by many.
What so many friends did not expect - the most emotional news of all these days in the city that does not sleep - was that the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, would come to greet them personally, and that he would raise his voice along with with them to say "Cuba yes, blockade no! Cuba yes, blockade no!...". At that moment in the afternoon, the corner of Lexington and 38th was a vortex of reaffirmation and embraces of humanity.
Brothers, the dignitary called to all those who received him on the street. And to them he said: “Thank you very much for the solidarity, thank you very much for the support, and thank you very much for being here with us.” Of the large group, a woman said “Thank you to Cuba for being an example of what a humanist society, with revolutionary values, should be.” He thanked Cuba “for being hope around the world and globalizing it, for giving us the opportunity to see what is possible and what is necessary.”
