Although there has been a decrease in the infant mortality rate in Cuba so far in 2024, Dr. Catherine Chibás Pérez, national head of the Maternal and Child Program (PAMI) of the Ministry of Public Health, warned that maintaining and consolidating these indicators requires of an intersectoral effort.
According to the report presented by Chibás Pérez before the Health and Sports Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power, as of July 11, there have been 34,648 live births, 8,157 less than in the same period of 2023. In addition, the number of deaths in children under one year of age has been reduced by 82 cases, from 340 to 258.
