Every September 8 means a very important day for the workers of the Computer and Electronics Youth Club. A new anniversary of its creation is celebrated as a program of the Revolution that has lasted for 35 years. With the mission of providing a computer culture to the community, with priority for children and young people, it has played an active, creative and value-forming role in the process of computerization of Cuban society.
In its beginnings, Comandante Fidel affirmed: "The society that is not prepared for the use of computing is liquidated." At that time, resources were very few in this field, but what was left over was the good will to promote the development and learning of informatics, computers and electronics in the country. It was time to get used to a new world that was changing around Cubans and to show how much could be achieved in the technological, cultural and spiritual spheres of our people.
In its thirty-five years of work, and in the face of the growing challenges that technological development imposes on us, the formation of a computer culture continues to be one of the fundamental and priority guidelines in the daily work of Joven Club where more than 4.9 million Cubans in courses in face-to-face, semi-face-to-face and distance modalities. And important services have been provided to the community, health centers, schools and other institutions in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
One of Cuba's main policies is social inclusion and equality for all men and women, even when they have a visual, hearing, physical, mental or motor disability, so following these principles, the empowerment of this population segment is a permanent work objective of the organization.
The areas and activities that are important to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities are closely linked to the use of ICT and as a result of this, the self-esteem of people with disabilities is increased. These possibilities offered by ICTs are reflected in their daily lives, socially, in education and in the workplace.
The microcomputer operator courses for people with disabilities have been the main service provided for them, this has allowed them to be independent in the use of the computer, which has been very useful for doing their school work.
The Computing and Electronics Youth Clubs have contributed to the writing of university or technical theses for which their goal is to become a productive and trained young person, or to be part of a work center. It has also been useful for many of them to want to study computer science or some other career related to technology and manage, at the end of their degree, to work in these spheres.
Robotics has become one of the educational tools where students, from primary to professional, put into practice the concepts acquired. Likewise, it encourages students to acquire and develop new knowledge in the disciplines that converge in the design, construction and programming of robotic systems.
Parallel to the decision of the Ministry of Education to introduce the teaching of automation and robotics in Cuban schools and the impulse that the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, has requested to include these subjects in the educational program of the country, Joven Club already has the design of courses and training as well as laboratories to begin the approach and the development of skills in these areas.
Disseminating robotic technology in the community, as well as its advantages as a means of improving people's work and life conditions and encouraging young people to study this technology, is another of the work projections.
