On the morning of this Tuesday, a new floating plant for the generation of electricity arrived in Havana which, once synchronized, will add to the National Electric System (SEN) some 110 megawatts (MW) of power.

This patana (as floating plants are also known) will be the seventh facility of its kind in the country, joining others located in Mariel Bay and Havana Bay.

According to Lázaro Guerra Hernández, technical director of the UNE, the transmission lines to connect to the unit are ready. "Now the plant goes directly to the Ñico López refinery to supply itself with fuel, after which it moves to the place where it will be located, it is anchored and engine tests begin."

The first of these systems have been operating in the country since 2019 as a result of an agreement between Cuba and the Turkish company Karadeniz Holding.

According to sources from the Unión Eléctrica, the plant, equipped with six motors, must synchronize the electrical system at the end of this month of November. With this incorporation, the "patanas" have a power of 400 MW.
