In a recent exchange with the press, the highest customs authorities of the Island said that the conditions for work on this front have been created at the "José Martí" international airport; which are also expanded at the airport of Varadero, Matanzas, although they have also carried out meticulous work there for years.
For the sea route, they have two offices in the main ports of the country and one in Terminal 4 of the "José Martí" Airport; in order to prevent the use of maritime and air cargo containers for illegal activities, particularly drug trafficking.
At the same time, Cuban Customs updates its workers through systematic improvement courses; it uses modern means, equipment and other techniques, such as canine, for the detection of toxic substances and narcotics at borders.
Participation in conferences, meetings and international debates and exchange with foreign specialists reinforces the work, aimed at guaranteeing the health and tranquility of citizens; in addition to continuing to make Cuba a safe tourist destination.
According to official sources, only from January to May of this year, 14 kilograms of drugs were seized in the Cuban archipelago, predominantly cocaine; detected mainly by the Havana Airport, in Santiago de Cuba and Holguín.
