
The Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU) commemorated this Monday World Radio Day, instituted by the UN General Assembly, at the proposal of UNESCO, in 2012.
In an exchange where Radio Rebelde was honored on its 65th anniversary, the president of the ACNU, Norma Goicochea, explained that for the United Nations, radio is an essential medium due to its reach and power of interaction with audiences.
Goicochea reviewed the value of the station of the Revolution in the struggles for the definitive independence of the Cuban people and urged the radio broadcasters to strengthen the reflection of the work of civil society in the collective construction of a better country.
After a debate on the history of Radio Rebelde, the head of the ACNU highlighted the love and sense of belonging of its workers as well as the confluence of several generations.
At the commemoration meeting for World Radio Day, held at the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU), the potential of the country's 100 radio stations to defend the truth of Cuba in the midst of an ideological war was highlighted.
The journalists Zenaida Costales and Demetrio Villaurrutia underlined the necessary link with academia to appropriate current communication logics; meanwhile, the director Ismael Rensoli highlighted the historical values of Radio Rebelde.
The Argentine journalist, Rosana Cesaroni, shared the experience of community radio stations that have been broadcasting the Amigos de Cuba program in her country for 10 years.
The meeting was also attended by the general director of the Radio, Yuzaima Cardona, the president of the ACNU Press Commission, Pedro Martínez Pirez, and the director of Radio Rebelde, Liuba Moreno.
