
Floral offerings from the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, led this Sunday the tribute to José Antonio Echeverría in his hometown and in Havana, on the occasion of commemorating the 65th anniversary of the assault on the Presidential Palace and the takeover of Radio Reloj.
In the necropolis of the town, where the mortal remains of the student leader rest, offerings were also deposited on behalf of the University Student Federation (FEU), and the people of Cuba, in tribute to one of their most beloved sons.
On the occasion of the date, the usual popular pilgrimage was made to the local cemetery, as a sign of respect and affection for that young man and his fellow fighters, who sacrificed their lives for the Homeland.
Karla Santana Rodríguez, national president of the FEU, recalled the impetus and qualities of Echeverría, and praised the historical merit of the epic carried out by those young people.
The day of tribute to José Antonio Echeverría on Matanzas soil was chaired by Liván Izquierdo Alonso, secretary of the Party in the province, and Governor Mario Sabines Lorenzo, together with local authorities and youth and student leaders.
In the afternoon, at the Museum of the Revolution, in the capital, a ceremony was held to commemorate the anniversary of the deed, chaired by Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, a member of the PCC Central Committee Secretariat.
On the occasion, combatants from the March 13 Revolutionary Directorate delivered, as a symbol of trust and certainty that their values and efforts will be guides for the members of the FEU, a copy of José Antonio's political will, which was received by the president of the organization .
Santana Rodríguez, on behalf of the FEU Secretariat and in gratitude to the combatants for their unconditional loyalty to the Revolution, presented them with a plaque with the image of José Antonio.
Also present at the tribute were Jorge Luis Perdomo, deputy prime minister; José Angel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health; Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, Minister of Education, and Aylín Álvarez García, first secretary of the National Committee of the Union of Young Communists.
